Sensory

Introduction
Depending on the age of students, they will receive a more or less scientific explanation of the senses, with the goal of explaining how the senses can work seperately and in concert.

Shakies and Sniffies
To test their auditory prowess, students are given a dozen matched film canisters, and must pair them by the objects they contain. They then do a similar activity employing their olfactory skills, sniffing sponges soaked in various essences.

Sensory Trail
Blindfolded students are led to a path in the woods, which they will follow by holding a string and feeling their way to the end. This is done in silent isolation, and is a rare chance for students to experience an activity without their primary sense.

Expansion Activities
Even though schools almost always request this class as a half-period, we are able to run additional activities, the most popular of which demands that students familiarize themselves with a tree while blindfolded, then find it again.

Conclusion
The ending discussion often focuses on those who are deprived of their senses, asking students to realize the value of each.
