Camp Pok-O-Moonshine

When Dr. Charles Robinson was planning the summer of 1905 for some students at his academy, he decided to host them on his property on Long Pond in the Adirondacks. The camp grew over the next 70 years, and when the Outdoor Education Center came into being, it incorporated the old camp’s facilities, as well as those of the newer Camp MacCready.

Camp Pok-o-Moonshine’s pond-side location makes it the obvious location both for boat-launches and beginning cross-country skiing expeditions, both of which afford splendid views of the picturesque waterfront and Mt. Pok-o-Moonshine itself.

A clearing and some log-benches are all that are needed for our Wildlife Ecology “classroom.” Any further clearing would spoil the best hiding places for our famous “camouflage” game.

Once the icicles melt, the larger dining hall (Robinson Hall, naturally) hosts meals for our larger springtime groups.

The waterfront docks present an ideal environment from which to instruct Pond Ecology, where students can search the shallows for all kinds of macrobiotic aquatic life.

Our earliest and latest groups get the chance to stay at the pond-side cabins, accented in traditional Adirondack style.
